Placement Test Information

English Placement
All new students entering UNO, with the exception of students presenting sufficient proof of English composition credit from another college/university, MUST take UNO's English Placement Test. NO ACT or SAT scores can be used. The test is a 45-minute writing sample scored by English faculty. It can only be taken once. The test will be administered during freshman orientation on the first day.

Mathematics Placement
All new freshman or transfer students without transfer credit in Mathematics will be placed into the appropriate UNO Mathematics course according to their ACT or SAT Math scores, as shown below. Students with Math ACT scores of 17 or below (Math SAT scores of 420 or below) are placed into DEVM 106 or 107, depending on major.

22/520 MATH 1125
26/590 MATH 1116, 1126, 1140, or 2314
28/630 MATH 2107 or 2111
  • The Math Placement Test will not be given to students who have current ACT/SAT scores. The test is only given to students who do not have ACT/SAT scores.
  • Tests begin promptly at the time stated. Students should bring sharpened pencils (#2) and a picture ID. Calculators are not permitted.
  • Students who do not have ACT/SAT scores, and have not taken the placement test by the last scheduled date in a semester will be placed in DEVM 106 or 107, depending on major.
