Orientation Leaders
Twenty-three University of New Orleans students have been selected to serve as 2009 Orientation Leaders. They will help introduce new UNO students to campus life during orientation programs this spring and summer.
Mark Becnel, a senior physics major, is president of the Society of Physics Students and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) and Louisiana Aerospace Catalyst Experiences for Students (LaACES). A graduate of Mandeville High School, he is the son of Patricia and Robert Becnel of Mandeville.
Lauren Boudreaux, a junior film major, is secretary of the UNO Greens and a member of UNO Filmmakers. A graduate of Design and Architecture Senior High School in Miami, Florida, she is the daughter of Vera Bibb of Ft. Lauderdale and Dwight Boudreaux of New Orleans.
Calvin Captville, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, is active in the UNO Progressive Black Student Union. A graduate of Central High School, he is the son of Carol Guidry of Baton Rouge.
Renato Chamorro, a senior marketing and business administration major, is involved in the Latin American Students Association (LASA) and the College of Business Executive Council (CBEC). A graduate of Escuela Internacional Sampedrana, he is the son of Sandra Ramirez and Renata Chamorro of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Jessica Lynn deLaneuville, a junior political science major, is a member of the Student Government Election Commission, Student Activities Council, Golden Key Honour Society, Delta Zeta sorority and Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity. A graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School, she is the daughter of Nohelia deLaneuville of Kenner.
Amber Fairbanks, a freshman marketing major, is a member of Delta Zeta sorority. A graduate of West Monroe High School, she is the daughter of Tegwin and John Fairbanks of West Monroe.
Nick Fuselier, a junior marketing major, is a graduate of Eunice High School and the son of Michele and Michael Fuselier of Eunice.
Tamara Geffrard, a senior sociology major, is a member of the Progressive Black Student Union, Alpha Phi Delta Law Fraternity and is a Resident Assistant. A graduate of Palm Beach Lakes High School, she is the daughter of Vonie Augustin of Miami and Agener Geffrard of West Palm Beach, Florida.
Brett Hornsby, a junior marketing major, is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Fraternity, UNO Blue Krewe, Student Government, Interfraternity Council, Greek Council and Lambda Chi fraternity. A graduate of Jesuit High School, he is the son of Sandra Hornsby of Gretna and Irby Hornsby of Baton Rouge.
Amonie Johnson, a junior biology/pre-medicine major, is Orientation Leader coordinator and a Student Government senator representing the College of Sciences. A graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., she is the daughter of Angela and Fred Johnson of Algiers.
Fred Johnson IV, a junior biology/pre-medicine major, is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the UNO Progressive Black Student Union and is a Student Government senator representing the College of Sciences. A graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., he is the son of Angela and Fred Johnson of Algiers.
Leticia Lam, a freshman electrical engineering major, is a graduate of the Elvel School and the daughter of Eva and Hai Lam of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Brooke Larsen, a junior history and photography major, is a participant in the UNO Honors Program, and a member of the UNO Theatre Club, the Dinner Ready is Improv, an improvisation and sketch comedy troupe; and the Lakefront Players. A graduate of Baton Rouge Magnet High School, she is the daughter of Gigi and Niels Larsen of Baton Rouge.
John Michels, a junior education major, is the UNO Driftwood cartoonist, a Resident Assistant for Pontchartrain Hall and a tutor with UNO's Classic Upward Bound program. A graduate of O'Gorman High School, he is the son of Pam and John Michels of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Taurean Mingo, a junior political science major, is active in the UNO Progressive Black Student Union. A graduate of Redeemer-Seton High School, he is the son of Marcia Mingo of San Antonio, Texas, and Willie Mingo of New Orleans and the older brother of Marquez and Malik Mingo of San Antonio.
Luz Pena, a freshman civil engineering major, is a graduate of East St. John High School in LaPlace. She is the daughter of Luz and Lorenzo Pena of the Bronx, New York City.
Gelana Dee Stovall, a freshman business major, is a member of the Progressive Black Student Union. A graduate of Hahnville High School, she is the daughter of Peggy Stovall Morgan of Luling.
Jose Suarez, a junior electrical engineering and business administration major, is Student Activities Council vice president of finance, treasurer of the UNO student chapter of IEEE, scholarship chairman for the UNO Ambassadors and treasurer of the Engineering Students Leadership Council. A graduate of Jefferson-Salinas High School, he is the son of Monica Rezabala and Jose Suarez Andrade of Salinas, Ecuador.
Maryam Zahmatkesh-Tareh, a junior management major, is a Student Government senator and a member of the Student Activities Council. A graduate of Grace King High School and a native of Tehran, Iran, she is the daughter of Aghdas O. Kashi and Mohammad Z. Tareh of New Orleans.
Damien Theodore, a junior elementary education major, is a Student Government senator representing the College of Education and Human Development, president of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, president of the National Panhellenic Council, vice president of the Progressive Black Student Union and a member of the Student Persistence and Recovery Initiatives (SPRI) committee. A graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, he is the son of Denise Theodore and Mark Turner, both of New Orleans.
Jevon Thompson, a senior majoring in psychology and biological sciences, is a member of the Progressive Black Student Union. A graduate of Warren Easton High School, he is the son of Latricia D. Howard of New Orleans.
Kaydian Vernon, a senior chemistry major, is active in the Golden Key Honour Society and the Chemistry Club and serves as vice president of the UNO Honors Program. A graduate of Blanche Ely High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, she is the daughter of Henry Vernon on Ft. Lauderdale.
Shannon Zorn, a junior psychology major, is a UNO Ambassador and a member of the Blue Krewe, the Latin American Student Association (LASA) and Sigma Kappa sorority. A graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School, she is the daughter of Edith and Dale Zorn of Metairie.
